Just last Saturday, our squad said a sappy “see you soon” to each other before going home to our families for a week.

I think God may have chuckled a little bit. We thought we would reunite in 10 short days – little did we know we were saying bye for 6 weeks.

What a whirlwind let me tell you.

Covid has now spread to many of my squadmates after leaving campus. I have thankfully tested negative, however, I am still quarantining for the sake of my family just in case I develop symptoms over the next two weeks. It’s not the way any of us wanted to spend thanksgiving.

Shortly after we became aware that the majority of our squad tested positive for Covid, we received an email. I read “Dear racers…” and then paused, took a deep breath, I had a feeling that I knew what was coming. The gist of it was that because of this COVID outbreak, Adventures In Missions have decided that we will not return to campus after Thanksgiving break. We will complete our last two weeks of scheduled training virtually prior to launching in January…

With that said, I do have some FANTASTIC NEWS!! Yes, the plan is to still launch overseas in January! Due to Covid, the countries that I originally signed up to travel to have changed. For the safety of racers and considering what countries have borders open for visitors, all World Race Gap Year squads will be in either Central or South America!! I was pretty pumped when they announced this a couple of weeks ago. My previous route were all countries in Africa and Asia – and God said He has something different in store:)

So without future ado, I am going to COSTA RICA!!!

I am over-the-moon excited. It will be all new and completely guided by the Father’s hands. We aren’t sure how long we will be there. From my understanding, the hope is that we will also do ministry in one other country but we aren’t sure where either! Just sitting in the unknown and it’s kinda growing on me:) constantly having to lay down expectations and embrace surprises !!

We will be staying at the AIM base in Curridabat, Costa Rica – right outside of San Jose. We don’t know much yet but we do know that there are so many different ministry opportunities here. I can’t wait to keep you updated as we find out more:)

Even though I would love to go back to Gainesville, GA, I’m so excited that the next time I get to see my squad we will finally be traveling overseas.

See you in Costa Rica D-Squad !!

  1. Lost track of the pos (+) and neg(-)’s of the squad, glad you tested neg(-) and have chosen to be responsible towards your family’s safety. We’ve all been holding our breath for a launch and now there’s one in our sight, it’s something to focus attention to, in spite of current conditions. You’ve got the WR spirit, lay down expectations and embrace everything as you move forward into the unknown into what the Lord has planned. He has prepared you and the squad for the ministries in CR, be certain!

  2. Wow. I’m so sorry you don’t get to see your squad for the next six weeks. But I’m so glad you’re still planning to launch in January. Amazing to hear how open your heart is to whatever God has in store. I’m praying you and your squad recover and stay healthy and connected to each other and growing despite the physical distance. Also that you launch without any complications. Y’all are awesome.
